ENERGY! I was skeptical when Adriene promised that we don’t need to feel like we have the energy to do today’s yoga practice, but she was right. I went into the practice feeling a little depleted, and I came out feeling energized.
I was reminded that small shifts in body and mind can make a disproportionate difference in how we feel.
I’m adding two simple poses to my toolbox for when I need a quick and energizing stretch by my desk:
- Upward salute – this is simply mountain pose with arms reaching up. Adriene coupled this stretch with the mental framing of an energetic current running up the front body and grounding through the back body (https://www.yogajournal.com/poses/upward-salute/)
- Knocking on heaven’s door – I don’t know if anyone other than Adriene uses this name, but it’s basically a wide-legged standing pose coupled with swinging/twisting your arms and upper body from side to side. It’s fun, it’s silly, it’s energizing.
